My boys.... my boys.... by Contraltissimo My boys.... my boys.... by Contraltissimo
I'm here to punch you in the feels.

Or give you nightmares. Whichever comes first.

For those wondering what on earth this ungodly scene is, this is the cursed family from Kakariko Village, from the video game The Legend of Zelda ~ Ocarina of Time. Curse seems to have been lifted from some of the kids, but.... looks like dad's still.... well. I'm sure you get the picture.

It was in my head, and it wanted out. Three days and some severe nocturnalism. And graham crackers.

I'm happy with this. Way too much fun with the lighting in this one. Yay burn and dodge tools. Might put up some WIPs later.

[EDIT 2013-05-28] - WIP now available for your viewing pleasure! :D

Killed 100 Gold Skulltulas and broke the Curse!!
:iconcontraltissimo::iconschattenlotus::iconmaga-link::iconmawichan::iconnayrufaroredin::iconlcneko-tan:

What's your kill count? :eager:

[EDIT 2014-11-06] - Wait wait, posted this May 20, 2013; 17,425 views to date; 10,283 of those views today? Will somebody please tell me what's going on? I'm just curious is all....

Hhhhh, okay DeviantArt, I'm making an edit, let's see what horrors you make with my descriptive words that you've turned into hashtags. Pfft, DeviantArt.com.... Maybe we should just call it Art.com. :p - [END EDIT]

Oh, they're not showing up in that garish blue blob. Hm, maybe because this was uploaded before the hashtag takeover. Well that's nice. Thanks for that at least, DA.

[EDIT 2014-11-06.2] - OKAY, THE TODAY-VIEWS COUNT JUST JUMPED BY LIKE THREE HUNDRED INSIDE OF FIVE MINUTES. WHAT IS GOING ON??  8O - [END EDIT]???

[EDIT2014-11-06.3] - And WNXAZ solves the mystery! I was checkin' bookface and tumblr and just couldn't pin it down, but was kindly informed that the link was on Reddit of all places! Wow I feel so loved. Maybe I should get into that website a little more, wot?

Thanks WNXAZ!!  :iconcoollinkplz:

[EDIT 2014-11-07] - OMGOSH, u guyz. :iconwibbleplz: I am so honored that this pic is touching so many people. Thirty-five-thousand-some-odd views, and there are over a thousand messages in my inbox right now. Also this finally dethrones that pesky HTTYD picture that's been my most popular, so thank you for that as well! Oh my gosh, but seriously, I am touched. That this touches you. I am homeworking like a madwoman until Monday, but I promise I will go through all your comments soon! And I WILL add Skulltula-Hundred-Percenters to my list up here in the comments! Huzzah for breaking the curse! And for people who have yet to reach that point.... You can do it I believe in yooooou! :la:

Loves to you aaaall!! :iconrubcheeksplz: :iconsupertighthugplz: :iconbrohugplz: :iconletmehugyouplz:

 ~ Connie

P.S. if you need more spider-feels in the meantime, help yourself to this somewhat accompanying fic!
The Cucco ConundrumThe Cucco Conundrum
Link was getting thirsty, but he had made a point to never again drink from Kakariko’s well.  He knew what was down there.
Chirping crickets stilled their night songs as Link shifted his position where he sat beside the windmill.  Not for the first time, he fingered his Ocarina in consideration.  He hated to dampen his lookout spot, but he really was parched.  A little rain would have to do.
With a stretch and a groan he rose to his feet for the first time in hours and walked the short distance to the nearest sheltering eaves.  Bringing the sacred instrument to his lips, he trilled a soft little waltz that set the sky aroil with swift black clouds.  The wrack thickened and churned above him, veiling moon and stars and casting Kakariko Village into blackness.  At the last note’s release, a sharp vein of lighting split the sky, thunder rang off the mountain and tumbled among the foothills, and the rain came down in sheets.
Navi the fairy, Link’s only

I remember getting all one hundred gold skulltulas, there were just about 2 or 3 that I needed, and when I couldn't find them I resorted to that trick... by trick I mean the unlimited skulltulas one. Link caramelledansen

I never played much Zelda as a kid cuz I was a scaredy cat:
Re-deads gave me nightmares, Bongo-bongo was my favorite boss, but he still creeped me out so much, and literally everything in Majora's Mask was terrifying.
Now that I'm older, though, I can appreciate how creepy things are, and this art of the skulltula's (I think that's what they were called) is just the right amount of creepy and sweet.
Awesome work!

Man, I remember seeing those guys for the first time when I was eight, they terrified me. Eleven years later, I thought I would be strong and tough enough to talk to them... NOPE! Still horrifying. Eventually I was able to muster up enough courage to get the adult wallet though, hehe.

I like the light on the abdomen of the skulltula, it's very atmospheric.

Seeing this on the front page was pleasantly surprising. This picture is still amazing (Spider Dad and Spider Kids are among my favorite minor NPCs, and it's still kind of sad that most of their pictures involve abuse and bug-squishing) and I'm glad you got that boost in Internet fame for drawing these guys!

As of this writing...I STILL have only around 76 tokens. I'm terrible. =(

When Link departed the cottage, his face was grim, his eyes hard and vengeful. The words of the family's sad story echoed in his mind, and with each recollection, each thought of them bound in and by their cursed forms, his hands clenched at his sides. He retrieved faithful Epona nearby and set out on his new task with only one thought in mind.

I haven't played Ocarina in years, but with just the slightest bit of recollection after seeing this, I can hear the "scritch-scritch-scritch" sound the Skulltulas make when they move. My perfectionist tendencies demanded that I hunt down every last one. That sound is engraved on my brain. I think #100 for me was the one just outside the Forest Temple. I could hear it moving, but could not for the life of me find it. By the time I finally spotted it, I wanted to take the giant hammer to it—repeatedly—but it was out of range, so I had to throw something at it rather than pummel it into spider pancakes.

I'm looking for creative talents for a crowd funding project im doing. Im doing a table-top art book, that will promote my new comic shop, as well as give exposure to the artists within with custom pieces and interviews to go with the art.... if you are interested in participating, please let me know. There are a number of artists involved already but, I'm still looking to expand the book. as an incentive all artists involved in the publishing of this book will receive a copy upon its success.

I hadn't thought much of this scene. But now it seems obvious that the family should be upset about their father still being a spider. I wish that the boys were surrounding their father when they've been released from their curse in the game. Instead of just standing by the wall and look stupid.
